Port Information for foot passengers travelling on Steam Packet Company services.

HEYSHAM PORT

Ferry services to Douglas are operated by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company http://www.steam-packet.com

Heysham Port is some distance from local facilities, being about 5 miles WSW of Lancaster at the end of the A683.

Local Facilities:  The “Duke of Rothesay” pub (a good 10 minutes walk) provides the nearest alternative food and shelter when the terminal is closed during the early evening – other facilities are available in 2/3 miles away in Morecambe.

Public Transport connections

  • Rail: Heysham Port station is adjacent to the Ferry Terminal. Northern Rail offer a daily service between Heysham, Morecambe and Lancaster (for Virgin Trains and First TransPennine Express mainline services) and Leeds to connect with 08.45 sailing from Douglas and the 14:15 return sailing. Timetable information is available from http://www.nationalrail.co.uk or phone 08457 48 49 50  - There are no train services connecting with evening/overnight sailings - and some daytime weekend services in Spring and Autumn are not always offered.  Passengers are recommended to check the timetable before travelling.

  • Through Sail & Rail tickets can be booked  through the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company (in person only),  and at staffed UK railway stations. It should be noted that ship to rail (and vice versa) connections are not guaranteed.

  • Local rail tickets can also be purchased on the train from Heysham to Lancaster.

  • Taxis: Advance booking of taxis is recommended. Local operators include: Radio Cabs (01524) 848848; and Coastal Cabs (01524) 424424.

  • Buses: The nearest bus stop at Combermere Road is about 15 mins walk from the port.   
  • Route 2A runs every 20 minutes (weekdays) via Morecambe to Lancaster Bus Station (Stand 3) and on to Lancaster University. Journey time is about 40 mins to the bus station.
  • Route 2X runs twice an hour (no evening or Sunday service) direct to Lancaster Bus station via White Lund
  • NB Route 12 to Lancaster Railway station has been withdrawn from Oct 2014.
